Refuge
Psalm 120:1 NLT
I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to Him,
and He answered my prayer.
Psalm 62:8 NLT
O my people, trust in Him at all times. Pour out
your heart to Him, for God is our refuge.
May we never forget the
beautiful truth that God is a God who intimately cares for us. God is our
refuge, our Safety. He should be the first one we turn to when we are distressed. Regardless of our circumstances, let our actions be to turn to God.
If we are happy, let us turn to God. If we are sad, let us turn to God. If we need
hope, let us turn to God. In all seasons, at all times, let us turn to God. The
psalmist declares that he took his troubles to the LORD. He cried out to Him
and God answered his prayer.
What prevents us from
bringing our troubles to God? Do we believe that God is too busy for us? Do we
believe that He doesn’t care about seemingly trivial matters? Do we think that
we can fix the problem on our own? The truth is that God is never too busy for
us. He is the Author of time. He loves it when we beseech Him in prayer and
supplication. He longs for a close relationship with us. He passionately loves
us. He cares about everything whether it be grand or small. He wants to hear it
all. The Bible tells us in Psalm 37:23 that the LORD directs the steps of
the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Every detail. He
delights, He rejoices in every detail of our lives! He already knows every
facet of our lives but wants us to tell Him about it. We must remember that apart from God, we can do nothing(John 15:5). We are utterly helpless and immobile
without God. We must depend on Him for everything.
What is your deepest cry? What is your most intense longing? Pour out your heart to God. Tell Him everything. He alone has the solution. He alone can fix it. He is our refuge. He is a very present help in times of trouble( Psalm 46:1). God is completely trustworthy. He is completely dependable.
Most importantly, He is good and does
only good. His thoughts toward us are good. He looks at us with eyes of love
and compassion. We are so loved by God that he sent His only son, Jesus Christ
to die on the cross for our sins. He didn’t just die but He rose again, giving us
abundant life and victory. Sometimes, well actually all the time, we need to
remind ourselves of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have to remind ourselves that
while we were sinners, Christ died for us, allowing us to have a right relationship
with God. So, in this relationship, we have access to God. We are His beloved
children. We can tell Him anything. We can be open and honest with Him about anything,
and He won’t condemn us. He welcomes us into His loving arms.
So let us pour out our
hearts to God. For He is our refuge. We can be confident in this: He is
entirely faithful and trustworthy. He loves us with an everlasting love. So, have
a conversation with your Maker. Get to know the great King of the Universe. Crawl
into His lap, and let your tears be the language you offer Him. He will
comfort and reassure you. He will rejoice over you with singing. Remember that
He is your strength. Remember that you are loved. You are delighted in.
