The Lifter of My Head

 

But you, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain. I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me.

Psalm 3:3-5 NLT

 

God is our protection. He is a shield around us. We can find solace in the fact that God encompasses us and supplies us with security, comfort, and hope. He lifts our countenances. He lifts our heads. We can sleep soundly in the face of danger because God is already on duty. The LORD is watching over us, sustaining us, keeping us safe. He will not relent in being our Rescue, our great Redeemer. He loves us and that love is fiercely protective. So many times, our heads are cast down in shame. But God cancels our shame and replaces it with glory. He lifts our heads and reminds us that He made us worthy. He bestows upon us dignity and honor. We are His children. He ardently loves us. We are wholly loved. Let that sink in. Let the great love of God wash over you and make you whole. Let the love of God restore you and give you rest. With God on our side, we can face any battle.

We are victorious because He is victorious. We belong to Him. He is the King of Kings and the great LORD of the Universe. He has us in the palm of His hands, and He will never let us go. It does not matter how big the enemy is. It does not matter how insurmountable the obstacle is. He always wins. We belong to Him so that means that we always win. Psalm 23:5 puts it like this: You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Imagine dining on the finest delicacies in the presence of your enemies. God will ensure that even your enemies will watch you prosper. Nothing can hinder His plan of blessing for your life. Remember that God is your Defender. Remember that He always wins the battle. He has already conquered death, hell, and the grave. He is victorious. His victory guarantees our victory. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:37 that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us.  We are more than conquerors! That fact alone will cause our stature to be straight. We will not hang our heads down in defeat. We will walk boldly in victory.

The psalmist also declares that he cried out to the LORD and he answered him from His holy mountain. We have an available God. He is always there for us when we cry out to Him. He will not ignore us. Our prayers and cries are not a nuisance to Him. He desires to hear from us. He desires to supply our needs. God will answer us and tend to us because He loves us. So, soak in these truths. You are loved. God is your Defender. He is a God of love and justice. He sees everything. He is Our Protector. So let us cry out to Him. Let us pour out our hearts to Him. He will answer us. He will not ignore our pleas.

A Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father and My Fierce Protector,

Thank You for being a Shield around me. Thank You for being my Defense, my Rescue. Thank You for always listening to my cries and answering me. LORD, help me please to walk in confidence, knowing that You are always victorious. You win every battle. In Christ, I am more than a conqueror. In Christ, I am accepted and whole. Thank you for lifting my head. Help me not to sink my head down in shame or defeat. Remind me of what You accomplished on Calvary. Remind me that You already made me a valiant warrior for You. Thank You for allowing me to rest in Your arms, to sleep soundly knowing that You are taking great care of me.  Please help me not to doubt Your great protection. Help me to always rely on You, For apart from You, I can do nothing. I love You, LORD.
